When it comes to action cameras, you probably think of GoPro, which is the most amazing on the market today.
But as you may know, because of its price, GoPro might not be the best choice for everyone.
So how about GoPro alternatives?
We’ll put in this list 3 Best Cheap Action Cameras like GoPro BUT cheaper. They’re GoPro alternatives those meet the basic requirements of good action cameras: good image sensor and good processor.
For those of you who don’t know: Ambarella A12S75 and Novatek 96660 are two most outstanding processor for action cameras.
As for image sensor, SONY IMX117 and Panasonic MN34120PA can produce sharp images and true 4K videos.
The action cameras below do have true 4K video mode, famous processor that allow you capture top notch quality video.
Plus, the built-in gyro-stabilization helps you avoid bad shaky footage when moving.
Let’s get started!
SJCAM SJ7 STAR is absolutely the best GoPro alternatives. If you just focus on the video quality and the reasonable price, SJ7 Star should be the very first consideration.
There is a fact that many action cameras have fake 4K video, most of them is 720 or 1080p upscaled to 4K. However, the SJ7 Star is real 4K. That is one of the reasons why SJ7 Star is my favorite for outdoor vlogging.
SJ7 Star’s video quality is sharp and bright but it’s a little bit greenish when compared to GoPro 4 and GoPro 5. It’s not really a drawback because a lot of people even prefer the color of Sj7’s video to GoPro’s.
SJ7 Star has many features like GoPro 5 or any high-end action cams (see below), but GPS doesn’t include. So, if you need GPS on action camera, GoPro is the best choice.
Here are two videos for comparison:

What about audio quality? Most built-in micros on action cameras (including GoPro) are suck.
And then, you just synchronized the sound recording and video with a software on your computer.
With the same major options but at the lower price, SJ7 STAR is one of the action cameras like GoPro but cheaper.
Amazingly, though ThiEYE Original T5e’s price is softer than SJ7 STAR, they have the very similar basic functions and the video quality are both stunning.
Two significant differences between these two GoPro alternatives are: ThiEYE Original T5e have LCD display instead of touch screen in SJ7, and the battery is a little bigger than SJ7 STAR.
So if you can ignore the touch screen, ThiEYE Original T5e is the best choice for the budget.
Note: Just like SJ7, T5e supported external mic, but with 2.5 mm jack so you need an adapter to convert it to 3.5 mm.

If you are in love with GoPro but not on a budget, Goolsky Hawkeye Firefly 8S is another decent action camera alternative for less than $200.
Goolsky Hawkeye Firefly 8S has two models, 90° and 170° FOV. It has specs just like SJ7 and T5e above. So you don’t worry about video quality as well as photos.
However, if you like natural (NO distortion) videos and photos, the Goolsky Hawkeye Firefly 8S 90° FOV is the best choice for you.
Personally, I like Firefly 8S 90° F.O.V rather than 170° F.O.V because of NO distortion although this costs more. You can’t go wrong with this, it’s one of the best cheap action cameras under $200.
Here is the video test Firefly 8S 90° FOV:
So there you have it – the best action cameras like GoPro but cheaper. Surely, these action cameras with all their great functions and free accessories attached, have obviously threatened GoPro’s market-share.
The SJCAM SJ7 STAR, ThiEYET5e and Firefly 8S No Distortion have similar specs and quality video. However, the SJ7 STAR’s price is higher because of its touch screen.
ThiEYET5e is cheaper than SJ7, so you won’t break the bank if you choose it. Firefly 8S No Distortion is best suited to who need natural videos.
